🎯

Champion Focus

The Line Leader Champion supports manufacturing line leaders with shift briefings across four pillars -- Safety, Production, Quality, and Reliability -- plus problem investigation and action creation on the manufacturing floor.

What You Can Do

Get Shift Briefings

Start your shift with a clear picture of what needs attention. The Line Leader Champion generates briefings covering:

Safety

  • Open safety actions and their current status
  • Recent incidents
  • Overdue procedures

Production

  • OEE percentage versus target (with gap highlighted)
  • Top problems ranked by downtime impact
  • Uncategorized downtime needing classification

Quality

  • Failed quality checks with timing and count
  • Check trends and patterns

Reliability

  • Open work orders and their descriptions
  • Equipment status
  • Failed reliability checks
"Give me a shift briefing for Line 8"
"What's the status of the current shift?"
"Show me the upcoming shift summary"

Compare Line Performance

See how your lines stack up across the facility:

"Which lines are performing best today?"
"Show me the worst performing lines"
"Compare lines across the plant"

Investigate Problems

Dig into specific manufacturing issues with root cause analysis:

  • Get context from the line log and production data
  • See what has been tried before with historical action lookups
  • Search the Playbook for standard procedures and troubleshooting guides
  • Get recommendations tailored to the specific problem
"Help me understand the weak seals problem on Line 3"
"What have we tried before for metal detector rejects?"
"Search the playbook for seal troubleshooting"

Create Actions and Work Orders

Take action directly from the conversation:

  • Create actions and assign them to team members
  • Raise maintenance work requests for equipment issues
  • Start team huddles for urgent problems

Every action goes through a preview step before it is created -- you see exactly what will be submitted and confirm before anything is saved.

"Create an action to clean the bagger jaws on Line 5"
"Raise a work request for the sealing system"
"Start a huddle about the downtime on Line 3"

How It Works

Shift Briefings

  1. Tell the Champion your line (or it will ask)
  2. The Champion pulls data across safety, production, quality, and reliability
  3. You get a structured briefing with key metrics and issues highlighted
  4. Actionable next steps are offered based on what the briefing reveals

Problem Investigation

  1. Name the problem you want to investigate
  2. The Champion gathers data from multiple sources -- line logs, historical actions, work orders, and the Playbook
  3. You receive a root cause analysis with specific, contextual recommendations
  4. Follow up on any recommendation directly in the conversation

Creating Actions and Work Orders

  1. Describe what needs to happen
  2. If equipment is involved, you are asked to select the relevant asset
  3. Choose who to assign it to (the Champion shows your team members)
  4. Review a preview of the action or work order
  5. Confirm to create it, or cancel to start over

Common Use Cases

Start-of-Shift Briefing

Scenario: Line leader arrives and needs a quick picture of the shift.

You: "Briefing for Line 8"
Champion: "Here's your shift briefing for Line 8:

           SAFETY
           - 2 open safety actions (1 overdue)
           - No incidents this shift

           PRODUCTION
           - OEE: 72% (target 85%, gap -13%)
           - Top problem: Weak seals - 45 min downtime
           - 12 min uncategorized downtime

           QUALITY
           - 1 failed quality check at 06:15

           RELIABILITY
           - 1 open work order: Conveyor belt alignment

           Would you like to:
           - Investigate the weak seals problem
           - View previous actions for weak seals
           - Create an action for the uncategorized downtime"

Problem Deep-Dive

Scenario: The briefing flagged weak seals as the top problem.

You: "Help me understand the weak seals problem"
Champion: "Here's what I found for weak seals on Line 8:

           - 3 occurrences this shift, 45 min total downtime
           - Line log shows temperature spike at 05:42 before first occurrence
           - Previous actions: Jaw cleaning (resolved 2 of last 5 occurrences),
temperature calibration (resolved 3 of 5)

           Recommendations:
           1. Check jaw temperature calibration
           2. Search the Playbook for seal specs
           3. View recent work orders for the sealing system
           4. Create an action to inspect sealing jaws"

You: "Create an action to inspect sealing jaws"
Champion: "Who should this be assigned to?
           - Maria S. (Maintenance)
           - James K. (Line Tech)
           - Priya R. (Quality)"

You: "Assign to James"
Champion: "Preview:
Action: Inspect sealing jaws for temperature damage
           Assigned to: James K.
           Line: Line 8
           Priority: High

           Create this action?"

You: "yes"
Champion: "Action created successfully."

Tips and Best Practices

Getting the Best Briefings

  • Specify your line in the first message to get results immediately
  • After the briefing, follow up on specific items -- the Champion remembers the context
  • Use briefings at shift handoffs to quickly bring the next leader up to speed

Investigating Problems Effectively

  • Start with the problem name from your briefing or line log
  • Ask about historical actions to see what has worked before
  • Check the Playbook for standard operating procedures
  • The Champion combines all of this into actionable recommendations

Creating Actions

  • Be specific about what needs to happen and where
  • The Champion will suggest team members from your facility
  • Always review the preview before confirming

Troubleshooting

Briefing shows no data

  • Confirm the Champion knows your facility and line (it will ask if unclear)
  • Verify that your Redzone system is accessible
  • Check that your organization has the Line Leader Champion enabled

Cannot create an action

  • Make sure you have the necessary permissions in Redzone
  • Verify the person you are assigning to is a valid team member at your location
