Inventory Champion

The Inventory Champion helps you analyze stock levels, identify overstock opportunities, run what-if simulations on order policies, and update ERP planning parameters.

🎯

Champion Focus

The Inventory Champion combines data analysis, simulation, and ERP updates into one conversation. Generate briefings on overstock opportunities, simulate changes to safety stock and reorder points, and push approved changes to your ERP -- all without switching between tools.

What You Can Do

Generate Inventory Briefings

Get a quick overview of your biggest optimization opportunities:

  • Top overstocked items ranked by potential savings
  • Optimal service levels calculated for each item (minimum 95%)
  • ABC/XYZ classification to prioritize high-impact items
  • Safety stock recommendations based on your data
"Generate an inventory briefing"
"Show me the top overstock opportunities"
"What items have the most excess inventory?"

Ask Questions About Your Inventory

Query your inventory data with natural language:

"What's the average turnover rate for items at site 10-100?"
"Show me items with more than 90 days of supply"
"Which items have the lowest turnover?"
"How many items are classified as A-class?"

Run Simulations

Test changes before committing them -- simulations show you the projected impact without touching your ERP:

  • Get recommendations for optimal order policy parameters
  • Simulate parameter changes like safety stock, reorder point, or order quantity
  • Compare current vs. proposed values with projected outcomes
"What are the recommended parameters for item 62050_30-200_30CHN?"
"Simulate safety stock change to 100 for that item"
"What happens if I change the reorder point to 500?"

Update ERP Planning Parameters

When you are ready, push changes to your ERP with confirmation:

  • Safety stock
  • Reorder point
  • Order multiple
  • Minimum order quantity
  • Order period
"Update safety stock to 150 for item 62050_30-200_30CHN"
"Change reorder point to 500 in the ERP"

How It Works

Briefings

  1. Ask for a briefing -- the Champion analyzes your inventory data
  2. You receive a summary table of top opportunities with key metrics
  3. Each item shows overstock value, potential savings, service level, and classification
  4. Follow up on any item for deeper analysis or simulation

Simulations

  1. Name the item using the SKU format (item code, site, domain -- e.g., 62050_30-200_30CHN)
  2. Request a recommendation or specify parameter changes
  3. The Champion runs the simulation and shows projected outcomes
  4. Simulations are hypothetical -- nothing changes in your ERP

ERP Updates

  1. Specify the item and new parameter values
  2. The Champion shows current vs. new values
  3. Confirm to apply the update to your ERP
  4. The update is verified automatically
⚠️

Simulations vs. ERP Updates

Simulations only show projections -- they do not change anything in your ERP. To apply changes, you must explicitly ask the Champion to update the ERP, and confirm the change.

Common Use Cases

Overstock Analysis

Scenario: Identify where you have the most excess inventory.

You: "Generate an inventory briefing"
Champion: "Top overstock opportunities:

           SKU | Overstock $ | Savings | Service | ABC
           62050_30-200_30CHN | $45,200 | $12,300 | 97% | A
           41020_10-100_10USA | $38,750 | $9,800 | 96% | A
           73105_20-200_20EUR | $22,100 | $6,400 | 95% | B
           ...

Key insight: Adjusting safety stock on the top 3 items
could free up ~$28,500 in working capital."

What-If Simulation

Scenario: Test a safety stock reduction before committing.

You: "Simulate safety stock change to 100 for 62050_30-200_30CHN"
Champion: "Simulation results:

           Parameter | Current | Proposed
           Safety Stock | 200 | 100
           Service Level | 99% | 97%
           Avg Inventory | 450 | 300
Stockout Risk | Low | Low

           Projected savings: ~$8,500 annually.
This is a simulation only. Want me to update the ERP?"

Applying a Change

Scenario: Push the simulated change to your ERP.

You: "Yes, update the ERP"
Champion: "Update for 62050_30-200_30CHN:
           Safety Stock: 200 -> 100
           Proceed?"

You: "yes"
Champion: "ERP updated. Safety stock is now 100."

Tips and Best Practices

  • Start with a briefing to identify the highest-impact items
  • Simulate before updating -- always test parameter changes first
  • Items use the SKU format: itemcode_sitecode_domaincode (e.g., 62050_30-200_30CHN)
  • The Champion supports three order policies: FOQ (Fixed Order Quantity), POQ (Periodic Order Quantity), and ROP (Reorder Point)
  • Service levels below 95% are flagged -- the system recommends 95% as the minimum acceptable level

Troubleshooting

"Item not found"

Verify the SKU format is correct: itemcode_sitecode_domaincode. All three parts are required.

Simulation shows unexpected results

  • Check that the correct order policy is being used (FOQ, POQ, or ROP)
  • Verify the parameter you are changing is relevant to the item's policy type

ERP update expired

If you wait more than an hour between preparing and confirming an update, it expires. Request the update again.
